Since suffering a major stroke in 2000, Brodie has focused his efforts on stroke recovery and exploring alternative treatments. Following dramatic improvements over the last several years with adult stem cell treatments, Brodie is back on the golf course.
Brodie is now helping to build awareness and support for the advancement of stem cell research and treatments for strokes and other neurodegenerative diseases, as well as debilitating physical conditions suffered by professional athletes. Brodie also continues his lifelong commitment to mentoring young and disadvantaged athletes by promoting fundraising efforts to further these important causes.

- In a seventeen year career with the San Francisco 49ers, John Brodie was one of the foremost quarterbacks in football. A quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers from 1957 through 1973, Brodie threw for 31,548 yards and tossed 214 TDs in 201 career games. He appeared in the Pro Bowl in 1965 and 1970. He was named NFL’s Most Valuable Player in 1970. His best statistical year was 1965 when he led the League in passing average (3,112 yards) and 30 touchdowns. When Brodie retired from the NFL, he ranked third in career passing yards. Brodie went on to a second career as an NFL football and golf analyst for NBC. An accomplished golfer for decades, Brodie famously switched his focus from football to golf after retirement from NBC and qualified for the Senior PGA Tour in the mid-1980s. He found success among the best competitive players over the age of 50 and captured the title at the 1991 Senior Pacific Championship, defeating Chi Chi Rodriguez and George Archer in a playoff. Brodie went on to make $735,000 on the Senior Tour with 12 top-10 finishes.
